Seed Grant in Pathogenic and Commensal Organisms
PIs are Joseph Graves, Dennis LaJuenesse, Ram Mohan, Scott Harrison, and Mehrdad Tajkarimi, North Carolina A&T State University. Silver nanoparticles have been proposed as the new “miracle drug” against multidrug resistant bacteria. Unfortunately, we have recently found that bacteria handle silver just as well as they handle traditional antibiotics. This research project will attempt to help us better understand why and how bacteria can do this. Gaining this knowledge will aid us in developing more sustainable treatments for multidrug resistant bacteria.
